Obituary for Richard P. Stayer
Richard “Rich-On” Paul Stayer, 85, of Peoria, passed away April 3, 2018 in Washington, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on February 1, 1933 in Woodbury, PA, to Paul B. Stayer and Dorothy (Hoover) Stayer.

Richard was a 1950 graduate of J Leonard Replogle High School of New Enterprise, PA. He worked as a dairy farmer on his family farm in Woodbury until 1970 when he moved to Peoria, IL. He then became a dedicated Pasteurizer for Prairie Farms where he gave 21 years of service. Richard was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1954. While on Active Duty he spent two years with the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in Bamberg, Germany.

He is survived by two children, Cathy E. Stayer of Washington, IL, and Rick A. Stayer, of Irving, TX; two grandchildren, Kayla N. Stayer and Dustin A. (Tori Westefer) Doerr, both of Washington, IL. Richard absolutely adored being a Great Grandpa and best friend to Grey Slatten, Devon Mlekush, and Rylea Doerr. He was very anxiously awaiting his newest Great Granddaughter-to-be, Karson Elaine. He also leaves behind extended family in PA, including his nephew, Douglas A. Hall.

He was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Nancy Joan Stayer, and his sister, Joan S. Hall, of Loysburg, PA.

Although he moved from his farm, he never let the farmer leave him. He greatly enjoyed growing tomatoes and peppers every year and never let a leaf lay on his lawn for long.

Cremation has been accorded and services will be held at Galena Park Baptist Church by his neighbor and friend, Reverend Larry L. Johnson on May 19th from 2-4 p.m. A celebration of life will follow at Gannon’s Hillside Tap (1745 N Sheridan).
