Obituary for Richard E. Steveson
Richard E Steveson, 94 of Peoria passed away on May 6, 2021.

He was born in Marshalltown, Iowa on April 2, 1927, to Myrl and Ellen Margaret (Phillips) Steveson.

He married Mary Helen Otte April 22, 1950. They were married for 67 years.

He attended Marshalltown High School where he was a par golfer and a State
Champion swimmer. He received a swimming scholarship to the University of Iowa.

Serving in the Marine Corp during World War II he taught hundreds of Marines to swim.
He was recruited by the US Navy for their Underwater Demolition Team, the precursor
of the current Navy Seals.

A certified watchmaker, business owner and contractor, he resided in Peoria for 55
years. He was a member of First Federated Church for 53 years, serving in many
capacities.

He was past president of Kiwanis Club, past president of Lacon Country Club, and
past president of Willow Knolls Men’s Golf League. He was a member of BPOE in
Marshalltown and the Masonic Lodge in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. He will be
remembered as a frequent contender in the Men's City Golf tournaments.

He is survived by his two sons: John (Nan) of Washington, Illinois, and Mark (Kim) of
Lake Forest, Illinois, as well as 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Services are pending at First Federated Church of Peoria, with interment in the Church
Columbarium.

Memorials may be made to Veteran's Honor Flight or to The First Federated Church of
Peoria, Illinois.
