Obituary for Raymond "Sam" Frederick Sylvester
Raymond "Sam" Frederick Sylvester, 83, of Washington passed away Friday, September 24, 2021, at his residence.
He was born June 7, 1938, in Peoria to Raymond and Ethel Hauer Sylvester.
He married Suzanne on June 23, 1988; she preceded him in death April 30, 2018. His parents and brothers, David Sylvester and Jim Sylvester also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Debie (Mark) Strandquist, Laurie Berg; grandchildren, Barbara (Bobby) Welte, Kevin Berg, Kyle Strandquist, Ashley Strandquist, Evan (Dominick) Strandquist; sisters-in-law, Jean Sylvester, Sherian Sylvester and many nieces and nephews.
Raymond worked as a graphic designer for the US Department of Agriculture, retiring in 2003. He loved his family very much. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, camping, traveling, and spending time at his winter home in Texas. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan.
Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at Grace and Peace Lutheran Church 7611 Knoxville Ave., Peoria, IL 61614.
Memorials may be made to the church in his name.
