Obituary for Raymond Bastonero

Raymond Bastonero, age 83, formerly of Peoria, passed away on April 28, 2011, at his home, The Eagle Rock Ranch in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Ray was born on August 22, 1927, to Frank and Lucy Pasero Bastonero, who immigrated from Northern Italy in 1903. He was the youngest son, having five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by step-daughter, Bobbette Gauss of Idaho Falls, Idaho, step-son, Gary George of Idaho Falls, Idaho, two sisters, Esther Miller of Peoria, and Lucille Harczuk of Tucson, Arizona, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, his niece Janet Nelson of Peoria, and his nephews, Dave Bastonero of Canton and Michael Miller of Marion, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Ricky Bastonero, and five brothers. Ray served in the Merchant Marines on the USSR Victory from 1945 to 1947. He then joined the Army and served in the Korean War. After the war, Ray worked construction, owning and operating heavy equipment in California. He worked in the movie industry and motion picture business by driving the production van, operating the generators and even ran cattle on the Century 21 Fox Studio Ranch. Ray briefly appeared in the movie “Crisscross” while working on location in Florida. In 1984, he bought his ranch in Idaho, and spent the last 25 years making it a working ranch and boarding horses. A Funeral Services will be held at 11 am on Wednesday May 4, 2011 at Abts Mortuary in Pekin, with visitation one hour before the service. Father Jim Pankiewicz will officiate. Burial will be in the Maple Ridge Cemetery in Mapleton. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
