Obituary for Raymond Alfred Becker
Raymond Alfred Becker 92, of East Peoria passed away on Tuesday June 10, 2008 at Morton Villa Nursing Home. Born to Frank and Catherine Hansen Becker on Oct 18, 1915 in Chicago. He married Florence Koeppel on Dec 31, 1944 in Peoria; She preceded him in death on May 22, 2007. Also preceding was 1 brother and 2 sisters. Raymond is survived by his sons; Russell (Helen) of Washington, Roger (Kathleen) of Hollis Township, Dennis of East Peoria, daughter Linda Becker of East Peoria and his 4 grand and 2 great grandchildren. Raymond is of the Lutheran faith and was Baptized on Nov 28, 1919 in Chicago and Confirmed on March 30, 1947 at Christ Lutheran Church here in Peoria. He served in the Army during WWII in the South Pacific with Company C 1759th Engineer Battalion in New Guinea, Luzon and Korea as a Cook. He received 3 overseas service bars and eight metal awards during the liberation of the Philippines and worked as a Research Machinist for Caterpillar for 36 years, retiring in 1970. He was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club, Rod and Reel Club and a 45 year member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Peoria. Cremation has been accorded and a graveside service will be held at Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria on Saturday June 14, at 11 a.m.. Rev. Louis Knief will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Flower Fund at his church or the Center for Prevention of Abuse in Peoria. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
