Obituary for Phyllis Knells
Phyllis Elaine Kells (nee Stern), 80, of Peoria, Illinois, beloved wife of Louis Robert Kells, of Mount Vernon, Illinois died at 5:02 pm December 29, 2012 , at Proctor Hospital in Peoria. Born December 9, 1932 in Peoria, Illinois to Carl Phillip Stern and Avalena (nee Baker) Stern, Villa Ridge, Illinois. Phyllis Married Louis Robert Kells, on August 23, 1958 in Peoria, Illinois at the First Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Louis Robert Kells, and her two sons Robert Phillip Kells and Eric Louis Kells. Upon receiving a bachelor’s degree from Bradley University, she was awarded a full tuition scholarship for a master’s degree in Fine Art. She graduated with distinction for her second master’s degree in English. She taught in grade school, high school, and on the university level at Illinois Central College and at Bradley University’s Institute for Learning in Retirement. She made a number of trips abroad to further her knowledge and interest in history, art and literature. (One of her early artistic achievements in 1947 was to paint a mural of the Keystone Steel and Wire Company for Franklin Grade School, and her later professional illustration of Jubilee Collage is still being used today by Jubilee Collage State Park.) Cremation was accorded. There was no visitation. Services were private at the convenience of family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Bradley University.
