Obituary for Phyllis Gladson
Phyllis Gladson of Peoria was a beloved great-grandmother, grandmother, mother, and wife during her incredible 95 years of life. She passed away peacefully on January 1, 2022.
Known for her kind heart, warm smile, and amazing hugs, Phyllis had a long and full life. She was born to Lloyd and Margaret (Rainford) West on November 19, 1926, as the youngest of nine siblings, including three sisters and five brothers. She raised her own family with husband Hiel Judy in Tiskilwa and Washington, where she owned Phyllis’ Fabrics on the square. Savvy and fashionable, she taught her daughters to be just as strong and independent as she was. She showed her family love, tenderness, humor, and joy throughout their lives, often volunteering as a chaperone at school dances and opening her home to her daughters’ friends. After retirement, she and her second husband, Frank Gladson, moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, where they became part of a wonderful community of retirees, enjoying hours on the pontoon and volunteering with First Presbyterian Church. She loved to play card games, read westerns, and teach her grandchildren about food and fashion – including the value of some good back-interest.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husbands Hiel Judy and Frank Gladson, and stepson Frank Gladson, Jr. She is survived by her daughters, the Judy girls: Cheryl (Tom) Bower, Stephanie (Paul) Mathenia, Lisle (Bob) Applegate, and Crystal (Randall) Compton; one stepson, Steve (Kris) Gladson; and daughter-in-law Donna (Frank, Jr.) Gladson. She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her.
A private memorial will be held in her honor.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
