Obituary for Paul Widebrook
Paul J. Widebrook, 95, of Peoria passed away at his home on Tuesday August 14, 2012. He was born May 20, 1917 in Milwaukee, WI to Charles and Magdalene Koch Weidenbacher. He had a news route from 1929 to 1931. In 1932 he caddied at the Blue Mound Country Club and walked with Gene Sarazen when he won the PGA in 1933. He worked at various jobs with no future. He moved to Washington, D.C. in 1939 to work in civil service, when he changed his name to Widebrook. He moved to Chicago in 1941 to work as an inspector with the Alcohol Tax Unit, which is now Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, for 23 years and retired from U.S Customs 8 years later. He was in the Air Force, married Grace Luebke and returned to Customs. She died in 2005 after 61 years with Paul. An adopted daughter, Nancy, died of breast cancer in 1988 at age 35 and Justin, her 5 year old son continued living with his grandparents, Paul and Grace Widebrook until he was adopted, he survives. He was an avid golfer and had a hole in one at each of the 4 Peoria public courses he played. He tried to live by Love, Compassion and Empathy. Cremation has been accorded and no services will be held.
