Obituary for Patricia Gay Lindberg
Patricia Gay Lindberg, 76, of Peoria, Illinois died Monday, November 1, 2021 at home surrounded by her family and dearest friends.
Pat was born July 1, 1945 in Peoria to Mae and Lawrence “L.H.” Brummer. After graduating from Richwoods High School, Pat attended Bradley University where she met her future husband, Carl “Charlie” Lindberg, on a blind date. After obtaining her Master’s Degree in speech-language pathology, Pat and Charlie married on May 31, 1969. Throughout their journey in life together, she was always a steady driving force; taking care of their three kids when Charlie was on sales trips, and always cheering on her children at their numerous sporting events. She was gifted at creating a beautiful and welcoming home, which was always open and awaiting friends and family. Pat had a knack for interior and landscape design, reinvigorating her rooms and garden on what seemed like a continual basis.
Always generous in time and energy, Pat was a speech-language pathologist for over 40 years, beginning her career at the Peoria State Hospital and then spending the majority of her career with District 150 schools. One of her career highlights was starting a reading program at Harrison Primary School, thus gaining state-wide recognition as a “Those Who Excel” award winner by the Illinois Board of Education. A billboard with her picture was made in her honor.
After retiring, Pat volunteered as an ESL therapist and reading tutor. She had a deep love for education and children, and a great passion for social justice issues. Between her time volunteering, she would travel extensively with Charlie and friends on cruises and trips abroad. She also adored spending time with her five grandchildren.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents and her younger sister, Lori Carter. She is survived by her husband Carl “Charlie” Lindberg; children, Kara (J.P.) Kramer of Johnston, Iowa, C. Matthew (Lindsey) Lindberg of Peoria, and C. Samuel Lindberg of Chicago; and five grandchildren, Lindy, Nina, Wade, and Marley Kramer of Johnston, Iowa, and Shalom Lindberg, of Peoria.
Services will take place on Monday, November 8, 2021 at University United Methodist Church in Peoria, where Pat was a member for over forty-five years. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm with a memorial service at 1pm in the sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Pat’s honor to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
