Obituary for Owen R. Reed
Owen R. Reed, 81, of Peoria passed away on Sunday, February 8, 2009 at Proctor Hospital. He was born December 31, 1927 in Princeton to John and Theresa Dahlgren Reed. He married Dolores Serer on July 14, 1951 in Spring Valley. She survives along with his children; Scott (Susan Sugrue) Reed of Wheaton, daughter Susan (Steve) Shanks of Lodi, WI, grandson Evan of Wheaton, granddaughter Jillian of Lodi, WI, nephews; Jack (Jane) Reed of Granger, IN and Philip (Marguerite) Reed of Berkley, MI His parents and brother Jack preceded him in death. Owen graduated from Peoria High School and served two years in the Philippines with the U.S. Navy. After serving he went to Bradley University where he eared his B.A. in 1950. He owned Reed-Manning Insurance Co. for many years. Upon retiring he worked for several local insurance companies. Owen was a former member of Mt. Hawley Country Club, where he enjoyed playing golf with his buddies. Cremation has been accorded and according to his wishes there will be no visitation and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution in his name may be made to the Dale Burklund Cardiac Rehab Center at Proctor Hospital, 5505 N. Knoxville Peoria, IL 61614. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
