Obituary for Oscar Harris Jr.
Oscar Leon Harris, Jr. 78 of Canton passed away Saturday July 2, 2011 in Canton. First son of Oscar Sr. and Florence (Guffey) Harris, he was born in Canton, IL on February 4, 1933. He was employed at International Harvestor in Canton until his retirement in 1985. A member of the United States Army, he served in Korea in 1953 and 1954. Known to friends and family as Bill, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and general “Bull Sessions” with the guys. He was a skilled carpenter and spent many hours remodeling his home. On October 19, 1957 he married Catherine A. Harris who survives. Also surviving are three daughters; Kolby (Tom) Hirth, Middleton, Wis., Janine (Steve) Urbanc and Amber (John Workman) Dornon, of Canton, and two sons; Matthew also of Canton and Andrew (Rosemarie) of Orange, California. He loved and enjoyed eight grandchildren; Rachel Glab of Madison, Wis., Courtney and Cole Hyett and Tayven Urbanc of Canton, Danielle Harris of Peoria, Eric, Ashley, and Nicholas Harris of Orange, California. Two great grand daughters, Lyric Porter and Ryland Bull, delighted him in the last two and a half years. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Daleta Rilea, one brother; Lloyd Harris, and one daughter; Shannon Kathleen Drueke. Cremation rites will be accorded and a Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at the family home from 1-5 pm on Saturday July 9, 2011. The family hopes friends will join the Celebration.
