Obituary for Orval Carey Jr
Orval Carey Jr., 88, of Peoria passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born February 28, 1925 in Pekin to Orval and Edna Herbig Carey Sr. He married Irene Clayton in October 1947. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Shirley. He is survived by his daughter, Susan J. (John) Long of Peoria; granddaughters, Natalie S. (Travis) Wilson of Chicago, Melanie S. (Joe) DiGiacomo of Chicago; great-grandchildren, Tommy and Elle Wilson of Chicago, Jax DiGiacomo of Chicago; sister, Alice Joyce Wamsley of Peoria; former wife, Irene Carey of Peoria; special friend, Shirley Lauer of Peoria; special sister's-in-law, Ruthie Starcevich of Pekin, Mary Solls of Peoria and numerous nieces and nephews. Orval served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during WWII. He served in the Philippines, Australia and New Guinea. He was awarded the Bronze Star. He worked for Best, Val Jobst and O. Frank Heinz construction companies. He was an avid Cubs fan; he never got to see them win the World Series. His family would like to thank the staff at Methodist, 5 Crescent, 7 Hamilton, Palliative Care, the men and women in Valet Services and Chaplain Anna for all of their wonderful care. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial mass will be held Monday, April 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. The family request no flowers, memorials may be made to TAPS in his name.
