Obituary for Muriel Kellstedt
Muriel F. Kellstedt, 90, of Peoria, IL passed away at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday October 16, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Muriel was born October 18, 1921 in Peoria to David T. Farrow and Olive R. Farrow. Surviving are her daughter, Jenny Kellstedt, her in-laws, Charmaine and Lyman Kellstedt, their children, and her beloved dog Jack, a rescue Shih Tzu. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Robert, her much-loved son Jamie and her husband, James P. Kellstedt. Muriel graduated from Central High School and attended Ward Belmont School in Nashville, TN and Bradley University, where she was a member of Pi Phi Sorority. She married James P. Kellstedt on July 25, 1942. She worked as a secretary to the Commander at Fort Polk, LA and also was employed as secretary to the Vice President of Dr. Scholl’s in Chicago, IL. Muriel was a member of the Peoria Junior League, established the museum shop at Lakeview Center for Arts and Sciences, served as a public relations representative for the Civil Defense, performed eye exams for impoverished children, served on the daycare board and the women’s guild at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, and was a Boy Scout troop leader. Beautiful in all respects, loving children, animals, and her family. Muriel was gracious and compassionate, showing unfailing care for others in need. Above all, she was a wonderful mother, revered by her children. Cremation has been accorded and per her wishes, no services will be held. Memorials may be made to Illinois Cancer Care or any no-kill animal shelter.
