Monica Patricia Schuster, 95, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 21, 2024 at The Loft of East Peoria.
Monica was born March 17, 1929 in Peoria to Harry and Catherine (Bailliez) Doubet. She spent most of her childhood in the Hanna City area. Monica attended Pinkerton Grade School as a young child and later graduated from Farmington High School.
Monica met her future husband, Wilbur R. Schuster in a roller rink, where he managed to cut in on her date with another fellow by stealing a spin around the rink with her. From this encounter, grew a relationship that led to marriage and 4 children: Theresa Willett, Sydney Gardiner, Jack (Diane) Schuster and Kathy Kelly. There are 5 surviving grandchildren: Bart, Jaclyn, Morgan, Tess, and Allie; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Monica’s work life included many years as a bank teller at Bartonville Bank and then as a copy-writer for Fleming-Potter. In her retirement, Monica enjoyed the ocean while living in Sarasota Florida for several years. Later, Monica and Wilbur moved to Kentucky, enjoying many years on beautiful Kentucky Lake with their beloved dogs. She adored the lake and wooded surroundings where they made dear friendships. Monica created fun family memories that will last a lifetime for her kids and grandkids during those years in Kentucky. Eventually, Monica moved back to Illinois to be closer to family after Wilbur passed.
Monica had many interests and talents. One of her life-long loves was playing cards with card-club couples in the early years then later with her beloved sister, Barbara and “the girls”. Monica was an excellent cook who loved gathering her family for meals and holidays. And as an experienced seamstress, she enjoyed making garments for herself and her children. Monica loved traveling by trains, planes and automobiles; going out to eat; going to movies and live shows; shopping; thrifting; and decorating her homes.
Monica’s biggest joy and talent was her role as a mom. She was abundantly loving and encouraging to her children and grandchildren. And she provided a wonderful example of resilience, generosity, compassion and gratitude for her family.
Monica was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Bartonville for many years. Later in life, she joined First United Methodist Church of Peoria, where she enjoyed services and bible study classes. She often mentioned her conversations with Jesus; they were very close.
Monica was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brother, Bobby Doubet; her sister, Barbara Hadley and one grandson, David.
Monica requested there be no funeral services. Cremation rites have been accorded.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
