Michael Thomas Sayers, 76, of East Peoria passed away Sunday, January 29, 2023, at his residence.
He was born August 15, 1946, in Peoria to James A. and Elvina L. Sandwald Sayers. His parents and brother, David Sayers preceded him in death.
He married Annette L. Ireland May 29, 1971, in Peoria; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Michelle (Brian) Rose, Darin (Heather) Sayers and eight beautiful grandchildren.
Mike was a true patriot and served in the U.S. Army out of high school as a communications specialist during the Viet Nam War. After serving he worked at Keystone Steel and Wire as a dedicated employee for 45 years retiring in 2011.
He had a lifetime love for nature and all of nature’s outdoor activities. Mike enjoyed ice fishing, camping, as well as fishing, and hunting. He enjoyed his many hunting and fishing trips with his Keystone friends. He was a member of NRA.
Mike also enjoyed his weekly gatherings with his bowling league friends at Roxy’s in Pekin. He was an avid sports fan enjoying all sports with baseball and football being his favorites, Chicago Cubs being his favorite baseball team.
Cremation has been accorded and his Military Honors service will be held on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield.
