Obituary for Michael Chobanian
Michael N. Chobanian 83, of Pekin passed away Friday November 19, 2010 at Hallmark House Nursing Center in Pekin. He was born October 13, 1927 to John and Elizabeth Campbell Chobanian in Racine, WI. He married Dolores J. “Dolly” Kalenofske May 29, 1954 in Racine, WI. She preceded him in death April 3, 1997. He is also preceded in death by his parents, and brothers; James and Charles. He is survived by his children; Michael (Danette) Chobanian and John (Cheryl) Chobanian both of Pekin, and Joan (Ann Montgomery) Chobanian of Taylorville. He is also survived by his grandson; Derrick (Jodi) Heflin and great-granddaughter; Ella Heflin. Michael served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He received his BA from Upper Iowa University in 1953 and his MA from Bradley University in 1964. He was an English Teacher at Pekin Community High School retiring in June 1991. He was an avid coin collector and a lover of history. Michael was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday November 23, at 10am Father Tim Nolan will officiate. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. A Visitation will be held Monday November 22, from 5-7pm with a Wake Service at 7pm at Abts Mortuary in Pekin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
