Obituary for Mary Todd
Mary Jane Todd, 90, of Peoria, IL passed away Thursday December 29, 2011 at Morton Villa in Morton, IL. She was born May 28, 1921 to Omer Lester McIntosh and Theo Day Warren in Des Moines, IA. At age five her mother moved to Chicago, IL after her father’s untimely passing. In Chicago, IL her mother was reunited with four of her sisters. Mary Jane graduated from Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago, IL at age 17. To fulfill a dream, she enrolled in college upon retirement and received her Bachelors Degree from University of Illinois in Springfield, IL at age 75. Mary Jane married George Litchfield Todd Sr. in 1943 and four children were born to this union. She is survived by her children, Jeffrey (Joni) Todd, Theo Jane (Greg) Barta, and Laurie Beth Todd. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Gabriel (Kelly) Barta, Jessica Todd, and one great-grandson, Halen. She was preceded in death by her son, George “Toby” Todd Jr. Her career choices were secretarial, office manager, placement counselor, purchasing agent and co-owner of a restaurant in Dunedin, FL. She devoted many hours to volunteer work and some projects; President of nominating committee for school board candidates, President of Heart Fund, den mother for Cub Scouts, hospitality chairperson for PTA as well as Deacon for First Presbyterian Church, President of Dunedin Garden Club in Florida, volunteer for food pantry and board member of friends of the library in Mishawaka, IN. In most cities where she has lived there were Bridge Clubs that she could manage as well as enjoy. Cremation has been accorded and a Celebration of Life will be held Saturday January 14, 2011 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at her daughter’s residence, 3526 W. Grimson Ave., Peoria, IL 61615. Memorials may be made to her family and the memorials will be distributed to many of her favorite charities.
