Obituary for Mary Izora Cawthon Goard
Mary Izora Cawthon Goard passed away peacefully on 20 Sept 2022 in East Peoria, IL.
One of eleven children, she was born in 1928 in Readyville, Tennessee to the late Leffel Cawthon, Sr and Nannie Zora Tennessee Lyons.
She attended local Cannon County schools and loved to play softball on the school team.
At age 16 she met her future husband and 2 years later she married Ed W. Goard in Rossville, GA. They made their home in Rutherford County and in the late 1940's moved to Peoria, IL so that Ed could work at Caterpillar. Shortly thereafter they bought their home in Creve Coeur where they raised their two sons.
Mary studied practical nursing while providing a warm and nurturing home to her husband and sons. She was loved by all their friends.
She was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband and one son.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was a wonderful woman who will be greatly missed. She maintained her great sense of humor and kept us laughing right up to the end. We rejoice in the belief that she is now reunited with her beloved husband and the family that predeceased her.
Cremation has been accorded and private family services will be held.
