Obituary for Mary Helen (Otte) Steveson
Mary Helen (Otte) Steveson, Age 91, of Peoria passed away Saturday, September 23, 2017 in Peoria. Born on June 20, 1926 at Deaconess Hospital in Marshalltown, Iowa to Fred Otte and Alivina Stoltzman Otte. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Marshalltown from 1936-1950. She sang in the church choir. She was a delegate to the Congregational Youth Conference at Grinnell College. Mary graduated from Marshalltown High school in 1944. She worked at Brintnall Dept. Store and in the purchasing dept. at Fisher-Governor Co. in Marshalltown. In Peoria, IL she was a secretary at A & M Insulation co.

She was an attendant to the Queen in the Marshall County Centennial Parade. In high school, she volunteered on the Ration Board for returning WWII veterans.

Mary married Richard Steveson on April 22,1950 (67 years). They lived in Colorado for 15 years, Denver for 10 years and 5 years in Glenwood Springs before moving to Peoria, IL. Surviving is her husband Richard, two sons: Mark (Kim) Steveson M.D., Lake Forest, IL and John (Nanette) Steveson, Washington, IL, 6 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Margaret Otte and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.

Mary was a member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority from 1944-1967, past president of P.E.O. Sorority, Chapter BQ and a longtime member of First Federated Church in Peoria, IL. She served as Deacon, receptionist, youth teacher, in Mothers Club, former member of Mt. Hawley Country Club and a member of several ladies golf leagues until she retired.

Services will be held at First Federated Church on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the church Columbarium. Reverend Stephen Barch will officiate. Visitation will be at the church one hour before the service. A reception will be at the church after the services.

Memorials can be made to First Federated Church, Lutheran Hillside Village or to O.S.F. Hospice.
