Obituary for Marilyn Garrett
Marilyn K. Garrett of Pekin, IL passed away peacefully January 21, 2012 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. She was born March 10, 1936 to Everett M. and Theresa A. Hutt Cole. She was a 1954 graduate of Academy of Our Lady High School, Peoria, IL. She married Paul Richard “Dick” Garrett in Peoria, IL on April 7, 1956. Marilyn never missed a Chicago Cubs, Bulls, Bears or Bradley Basketball game and truly was their biggest fan. She was also an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pekin, IL and proud member of their Resurrection Choir. Grandma Marilyn as she was so fondly called by many, most enjoyed her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Nothing pleased her more than spending time with them. She is survived by her three daughters, Mary (John) Meyer of Springfield, IL, Patty (Doug) Johnson of Illiopolis, IL, Christina “Tina” (Tim) Smith of Pekin, IL; one son, David (Mimi) Garrett of Glasford, IL; her eleven beloved grandchildren, Michael (Kelley) Meyer, Andrea Wilcoxen, David Meyer, Jacob (Patty) Demmin, Amanda (Alex) Gilles, Amber (Jason) Jensen, Jennifer (Justin) Moffitt, Robert Johnson, Ross Johnson, Kayla Smith and Chloe Smith. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Elyse and Lia Meyer, Jacob Wilcoxen, Grace and Jonathan “Jack” Meyer, Gwyneth Demmin, Will Jensen, and Johnson Moffitt. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Everett “Sonny” Cole and Thomas Cole; beloved husband, Paul Richard “Dick” Garrett and beloved son, Thomas Garrett. A Funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pekin, IL on Friday January 27, 2012 at noon. Monsignor Timothy Nolan will officiate. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria, IL. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday January 26, 2012 with a Rosary at 7p.m. and also one hour prior to the service all at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pekin, IL.
