Obituary for Marian Nickels
Marian Kastner Nickels, 65 years old of Bartonville, died at home at 10:27 a.m. on Tuesday, September 16, 2008. She was born February 21, 1943 in South Bend, Indiana to Herman and Madge (Reed) Kastner. She married Jack L, Nickels on December 19, 1964, he survives. She is also survived by one daughter Laura Lee Nickels of Pekin, IL and one son Kevin Michael, his wife Elizabeth, and four grandchildren John, Mark, Margaret and Katherine of San Antonio, Texas; three sisters, Kathleen (Thomas) McLaughlin of Bowling Green, Ohio, Patricia (Michael) Verlodt of Wonder Lake, IL, Margaret Kastner, Lewisburg PA; and two brothers, Michael (Marci) Kastner of St. Joseph, MI and Timothy (Joan) Kastner, of Pine City, NY. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Marian graduated from St. Joseph High School and South Bend College of Commerce, both in South Bend, IN. She worked at Aetna Life Insurance Co. in South Bend, Tri-State College and Moore Business Forms in Angola, IN as a bookkeeper for many years. Later, she was involved in Girl Scouts in the Sagamore Council in Lafayette, IN as a Troop Leader and Day Camp Director and Council Trainer. She enjoyed reading, counted cross stitch, traveling, and playing with her grandchildren. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a funeral mass will be held for her on Friday Sept 19, at 11 a.m. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be at Abts Mortuary in Pekin on Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. with a wake service a 7. Burial will be in Fulton Cemetery in Fulton, IN on Saturday September 20, at 11 a.m. In Lieu of flowers you can make donations to the American Kidney Foundation or St. Joseph Church, Pekin, IL. Arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
