Obituary for Leonard Winter
Leonard A. Winter, 87, of Morton passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Hopedale Nursing Home in Hopedale. He was born February 9, 1926, in Tuscumbia, AL, to Austin and Nancy Kilburn Winter. He married Walker “Lee” Hester on January 3, 1943, in Tuscumbia, AL. She preceded him in death, August 13, 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Bobby Head. He is survived by his children, Gary (Linda) Winter of Glasford, Ann Head of Pekin, Larry (Jean) Winter of Pekin, Scott (Denise) Winter of Senoia, GA, and Marty (Vickie) Winter of East Peoria; 16 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother. Leonard served in the U.S. Army and was a WWII Vet. He worked for Rocket Motor Freight as a truck driver. He was a member of Twin Oaks Missionary Baptist Church in East Peoria. A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Abts Mortuary in Pekin at 10 a.m. Pastor Tim Ellison will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Roberts Cemetery in Morton. A visitation will be held Friday, July 5, 2013, at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to Hopedale Nursing Home.
