Obituary for Leona P. Lewis
Leona P. Lewis 73, of Chillicothe passed away on Wednesday December 3, 2008 at Pekin Manor. Born in Strawn, IL on January 12, 1935 to Ray and Elma Weathers Hoye and raised by Carl and Elma Ruhlander from age 5. She married Charles “Duke” Lewis on June 8, 1956 in Peoria, he preceded her in death on August 13, 2003. Her parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters also preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughter Gina (Brian) Peak and granddaughter Samantha Peak both of Pekin, brother William Hoye of Long Beach, CA and several nieces and nephews. Leona was a 1952 graduate of IVC in Chillicothe and Liberty Cosmetology School in Peoria in 1964. She was owner and operator of Lov-Lee Beauty Salon in Chillicothe for 25 years, retiring in 1989. She was a past president of REACT, was a life member of VFW post 4999 Auxiliary, serving as Secretary for 2 years, Secretary/Treasurer for 2 years, Kitchen Co. Chairperson and Cancer Chairperson for 2 years and also Veterans Nursing Home Chairperson for 2 years. Cremation has been accorded and no services will be held. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
