Obituary for L. Lowell Ray

Surrounded by his family in the comfort of his home, L. Lowell Ray, 71, passed away at 12:01 am on June 12, 2023.


Lowell was born on July 17, 1951, the son of Lionel L. (Bus) and Elizabeth (Strader) Ray, in Kankakee, IL. He grew up in Oakwood, IL. He was preceded in death by his mother and father.


Lowell was a 1970 graduate of Oakwood High School. His marriage to the former Margaret (Meg) McNamara took place on July 17, 1976 in Litchfield, IL. In addition to his wife Meg, Lowell is survived by two sons, Brian (Jaimie) of Denver, CO, Philip (Whitney) of Bloomington, IL, and four Granddaughters: Elin, Ryann, Indie, and Adley Ray, all of Bloomington, Il. Lowell also leaves a sister, Susie (Mark) Willard of Rossville, IL. and many nephews and nieces.


Lowell served as a former Service Manager and was long time employee of the Pitney Bowes Peoria District Office.


Lowell was a devoted husband and father, an accomplished lead guitarist who played in the following bands: Nightriders, Society’s Child and Westbury East. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed spending time in the mountains and visiting the ocean.


To his family and friends, he was loyal, loving, considerate and most of all kind.


A Celebration of Life will be held July 9th from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Butler Haynes Park Pavilion, 9424 S Mapleton Rd. Mapleton, IL 61547


Memorials may be made to Melanoma Research Alliance or National Multiple Sclerosis Society.


The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
