Obituary for Kurt Rankin
Kurt E. Rankin, 74, of Pekin passed away Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Unity Point Methodist in Peoria. He was born April 20, 1939 in Harvard, IL to Robert and Marjorie Ainsworth Rankin. He married Annette Vogel April 22, 1961. She preceded him in death in 1991. He was also preceded in death by his son Gregory in 1990 and his parents. He is survived by his sons, Jeffrey A. (Dawn) Rankin of Cottage Grove, MN, Timothy E. Rankin of Peoria; grandchildren, Brianne Rankin, Jenae Rankin, Tristan Rankin; brothers, Mac, Ron, Marc; sisters, Patricia, Betsy, Barbara and companion, Fran. Kurt served in the U.S. Air Force from 1958 to 1978. He worked as an Emergency Service Dispatcher for the City of East Peoria, retiring in 1998. He was an avid golfer and animal lover. He loved playing guitar and country music. Kurt was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Abts Mortuary in Pekin at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, TAPS or St. Jude Hospital in his name.
