Kerry Short, 68, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away on February 5, 2026.
Born on May 21, 1957, in Peoria, Kerry’s life began and came full circle in the city he called home. Throughout his years, he lived in many places across the country, carrying his strong work ethic and unmistakable presence wherever he went.
Kerry was known as a dedicated and hardworking man whose passion for building swimming pools defined much of his life. He also had a love for music, often playing “steering wheel drums” as he drove, keeping rhythm with whatever song was on and turning an ordinary ride into his own private concert. He enjoyed shooting pool as well, a pastime that reflected his steady focus and quiet competitive spirit.
A devoted NASCAR fan, Kerry rarely missed a race. He could often be found wearing his Daytona hats and shirts, dark sunglasses resting on his tall silhouette — a look that became part of his identity. His unmistakable voice and steady presence filled every room he entered. Even when he wasn’t saying much at all, you felt him there — strong, grounded, and always observing. That quiet but powerful presence will be deeply missed.
Kerry is survived by his loving mother, Judith; brother Kelly and sister Kirsty.
He leaves behind his children Jeremy, Jessica, Jocelyn, and Jason; his grandchildren Elise, Daniel, Ava, and Liam; as well as his two nieces, Kaiti and Raechel.
Kerry was preceded in death by his father, Jerome, and his infant son, Joshua, whom he shared with his first wife, Jodi.
Above all, Kerry will be remembered as a man who worked hard, loved his family in his own steady way, and left an impression that cannot be replaced. His voice and the quiet strength of his presence will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
"But we'll try the best that we can to carry on"
