Obituary for Kenneth Martin Schwab
Kenneth Martin Schwab, 94, of Morton passed away Saturday, August 20, 2022, at his residence.
He was born January 12, 1928, in Peoria to Ferdinand and Gertrude Rose Janssen Schwab. His parents and brother, Robert F. Schwab preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughter, Tonya (Mark) Schwab-Nagler; grandson, Phillip Schwab; great-granddaughter, Addy; granddaughter, Kayla (Tyler) Bucco; great-granddaughter, Sloane; grandson, Kyle Nagler; daughter, Tiffany Thompson; grandson, Dalton (Katie) Roth, great-grandsons, Braydon, and Ryker; grandson, Devan Libby and fiancée, Sherry Swartz.
Ken was born and raised in the Peoria area. He grew up playing baseball and working at his family’s business, Schwab’s Dairy. Ken graduated from Bradley University. He was part of the most successful baseball team that went 30-5 in 1948 and was later inducted into the greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame. After graduating, he was asked to try out for the St. Louis Browns baseball team. He made the team but chose to stay with the family dairy business that his grandfather started in the early 1900s. From there, he served in the Korean War where he was also part of the U.S. Army baseball team. Once he returned from war, he moved to Chicago to continue his education in advertising and art. After retiring in 1979, Ken continued to play baseball at least 3 days a week until he was 88 years old. He loved baseball and softball, but eventually had to hang up his cleats. Another thing Ken loved was the stock market; he inspired his grandkids to have interest and invest as well. Ken lived his dream life doing the things he loved. He was always smiling and never complained. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Cremation has been accorded and a private family celebration of life will be held.
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
