Obituary for Kenneth Holmes Sr.
Kenneth Eugene Holmes Sr. 78, of Pekin passed away Monday May 31, 2010 at his home. He was born August 2, 1931 to Shelby and Alma Wright Holmes in Illiopolis, IL. He married Margaret Ann Hoeft November 29, 1974 in Peoria. She survives along with his children Lori (Ronnie) Thomason of Pekin, Michael (Diana) Hadley of Bartonville and Kenny Holmes Jr. of Bartonville, half-sister Dee Gable of KY and step-sisters Nellie Kloakkenga of Pekin and Claudine Hill of Charleston, IL. He is also survived by five grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Kenneth served in the U.S. Army for 20 years serving in the Viet Nam and Korean Wars. Armored Calvary. He received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a Letter Carrier for the U.S. Post Office for 16 years in Kentucky and Illinois. Kenneth also volunteered at The Peoria Area Blind Peoples Center. Cremation has been accorded and a Memorial Service will be held Tuesday June 8, 2010 at 5:30p.m. with a visitation 1 hour prior at the First United Methodist Church of Pekin, 1315 Court St. Burial will be at a later date. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Peoria Area Blind Peoples Center on Garden St., or Harbor Light Hospice.
