Obituary for Joseph Albert Shafer
Joseph Albert Shafer, 67, of Peoria, formerly of Glasford, passed away on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Joseph was born on Dec. 19, 1956, the son of Dean A. and Bertha L. (Bartley) Shafer. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deanna Miller; and his granddaughter, Rebecca Gaub.
He is survived by his 3 children, Stephanie (Jason) Gaub, Thomas (Mary) Shafer, and Christopher Shafer; his 2 grandsons, Ryan Shafer and Nathaniel Gaub. He also leaves many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, step-grandkids, and great step-grandchildren behind.
He served in the Army Reserve for 4 years, receiving an Honorable Discharge. He loved watching the Raiders, White Sox, Yankees and NASCAR. He would be hoping to play golf with his grandsons one day. He played for more than 40 years in the Peoria Church Dartball League of Greater Peoria. He loved to go to the dirt track and help on the car and watch.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at America Legion Post #35, 11319 S. Glasford Rd., Glasford, IL from 1 to 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to his children.
