John R. Thompson, 77, of Peoria passed away Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born October 28, 1943 in Peoria to John Joseph and Betty Alice Ethington Thompson. He was the eldest of fifteen children.
He married Bonnie; she preceded him in death in March 2013. His parents and siblings, Rebecca S. Thompson, Margaret J. Recar, Joseph R. Thompson, Edward R. Thompson, Patrick R. Thompson, and Michael R. Thompson also preceded him in death.
He is survived by his children, Ayana Thompson, Crystal Thompson, Michelle Thompson, John Richard Thompson Jr., many grandchildren and siblings, Deborah L. Tomblin, Cynthia Murphy, Mary Hansen, Dennis R. Thompson, Franklin R. Thompson, Gary R. Thompson, Terry R. Thompson, and Jerry R. Thompson.
John worked as a caregiver at a community workshop retiring in 2005.
He loved his children, grandchildren, and his family very much. He was a devoted Christian. He and his late wife ran a prison ministry, and he was an active member of the Riverside Community Church. He loved doing word puzzles and enjoyed reading.
Cremation has been accorded and services will be held at a later date.
