Obituary for John (Ike) Childress
John Isaac “Ike" Childress, age 87, of Washington, IL passed away at 10:14 p.m. Thursday night August 16, 2012 at Proctor Hospital, Peoria, IL. He was born April 16, 1925 in Bond Township, Lawrence County, Illinois. He was the Son of Hubert C. Childress and Millie O. (Thompson) Childress. Preceding him in death were his parents, 2 brothers Carl and George, 3 sisters Clara Ann Childress, Rosemary Peterson, and Helen R. Atkins, 6 nephews, and 1 niece. He is survived by 4 brothers Verice E. (Maxine) of Bartonville, IL, Charles L. of Florence KY, Larry D. (Faye) of Tremont, IL, and James "Andy" of Globe, AZ, 21 nieces, and 6 nephews. He had many Great nephews and nieces. The Family would also like to acknowledge two close friends Mr. Robert J. Wilcoxen of Peoria, IL and Mr. Ronald Falb of Sunnyland, IL. John served in the U.S. Army, he was a World War II Veteran serving in the Philippines and Japan during and after World War II. He retired after 30 years of employment at Caterpillar in 1977. At his request there will be no services, cremation will be accorded.
