Jeffrey William Rauen, 62, died unexpectedly on August 31, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born October 6, 1958 in Peoria, Illinois to Kurt Frank Rauen and Althea Mae (Montooth) Rauen, who preceded him in death.

Jeff is survived by his wife Georgia; children Kurt, Elisabeth, and Jessica; grandchildren George, Kyleigh, Nathan, Elijah, and Amelia; sisters Paula Parr, and Nancy (David) Wirth; nieces Christy (Anthony) Kabanek, Karin Wirth, Ashley Parr, and nephews Brett Parr and Kyle Wirth.

Jeff attended Richwoods High School in Peoria, Illinois. He served his country as a Sargent in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Spokane, Washington where he was a Freight Traffic Specialist. While serving in the Air Force, he received medals for Humanitarian Service and Good Conduct.

After returning to Peoria, Illinois, Jeff was hired by Komatsu. He retired after 30 years as the Supreme Leader of the shipping and receiving department. Jeff’s coworkers were amazed at his ability to get parts delivered quickly and efficiently to customers around the world.

Jeff was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and the Bradley Braves basketball team.

He was known for his quick wit and his ability to lead the pack while staying under the radar.

Jeff was an avid reader and a frequent patron of the Peoria Public Library, sometimes reading nine or more books per week. A puzzle master, Jeff completed jigsaw puzzles in world record time. He enjoyed music and had an extensive collection of original vinyl records. Bob Dylan, John Prine, and Steely Dan were among his favorite artists; he attended numerous Bob Dylan concerts. Jeff had a great sense of humor and particularly enjoyed Monty Python, The Far Side comic, and other humorists with slightly distorted views of life.

His grandchildren were very important to him. Jeff made an effort to be involved in their lives and provided guidance and support. He loved attending Junior Football League games and other sports and school activities. Jeff also enjoyed taking the grandchildren on trips and summer vacations.

Jeff was always willing to help others and elected to be an organ and tissue donor through the Gift of Hope donor network.
