Obituary for Jean Shoup
Jean E. Shoup, 86, of Montoursville, PA passed away peacefully on March 5, 2019 at OSF Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. She was born June 25, 1932, in Johnstown, PA, a daughter of Raymond S. Schell and Ethel (Warfel) Schell.

Jean graduated from Homer City High School in 1950 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in home economics and elementary education in 1954 from the State Teacher College of Indiana, PA. She later received her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Mansfield State College. She lovingly taught elementary education and home economics in the Montoursville Area School District for over thirty years.

Jean cherished her church family. She was an active member of the Montoursville Presbyterian Church, recently serving as moderator of the women’s group, editor of the church newsletter, singing in the choir and attending Sunday school. She held numerous church leadership positions and served on multiple committees over the years including deacon, elder, and area moderator for the Northumberland Presbytery. She became the church’s organist in 1966 and continued in that role for over 25 years. She enjoyed working with area brides in selecting their special wedding service music. Her love for children, education and music came together when she accompanied Montoursville area band members in special music programs and recitals. She enjoyed her German shepherd dogs, Inga and Jena, who predeceased her.

Jean treasured her retirement years by serving her church, gardening, reading and traveling with her children and grandchildren around the United States. She never missed an opportunity to watch the Pittsburgh Steelers play on Sundays and Family Feud reruns throughout the week.

Preceding her in death were her parents, four brothers, Raymond, Dale, Dean, and Norman, and her only son, William Robert Shoup.

Surviving is her twin sister, Jane (Jerry) Wick of Bluffton, SC, a daughter, Jane (Jeffrey) Wendel of DeSoto, TX, a daughter, Lisa (Steven) Horn of Morton, IL, four grandchildren, Rebecca and Russell in TX, Leane (Ryan) and Jason in IL, and one precious great grandson, Jody in TX, and many loving and caring nieces, nephews and other family members.

Jean was cremated according to her wishes. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria assisted the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.csmico.com. A celebration of life will be held at Montoursville Presbyterian Church at a later date. Burial will follow at Twin Hills Memorial Park at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Jean will be gracefully received at Montoursville Presbyterian Church, 205 Tule Street, Montoursville, PA 17754.

Isaiah 55: 12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
