Obituary for Janice Elizabeth Farquharson
Janice Elizabeth (Holsclaw) Farquharson, 73, of Peoria, Illinois, passed away at her home on September 11, 2021.

In 1948, Janice was born to Stanley and Mary Holsclaw in Fairbury, Illinois. She was the child of a farming family in Saybrook, Illinois. Jan grew up playing the piano and organ for her church, possessing the talent to hear a song and immediately know how to play it. She graduated from Gibson City High School in 1965 and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Illinois State University. Jan later met and married Robert Farquharson in 1971 and moved to Kankakee to begin her career. They later moved to Peoria, where Jan was employed by the Saint Francis School of Nursing until 1974 and resumed in 1980 following the birth of her two children. After 43 years of working for the OSF Saint Francis Medical Center College of Nursing, retiring as the Director of Admissions and Registrar in May 2021.

Jan is survived by her two children, Paul (Stefanie) Farquharson of Milford, Michigan, and Jennifer (Floyd) Wombacher of Peoria Heights, Illinois, along with four grandchildren – Chloe, Eva, Charlie, and Beck, who were the loves of her life. Also surviving are her two brothers, Wayne Holsclaw of Paxton, Illinois, and Gary (Linda) Holsclaw of Elliott, Illinois, several beloved nieces and nephews, and her devoted feline companions, Tiger and Miss Daisy. Preceding her in death were her parents, as well as her longtime love, Jack Baugh.

Jan was a kind, compassionate woman who loved meeting new people and enjoyed spending time with her countless friends and family. She had an unforgettable smile that would light up the room and from the moment you met her, you fell in love with her. Jan's favorite pastimes included going to the movies or theaters, knitting gifts for loved ones, and she had an appreciation for the beauty of nature, especially flowers. When she longed for solitude from this stressful world, Jan would retreat to her balcony in which she would adorn with a lovely collection of flowers and plants every year. Her favorite flowers were lilacs, whose scent would take her back to the lilac bush outside of her bedroom window on the farm.

Although we are utterly devastated at her unexpected passing and wish that she could have been able to fully enjoy her voyage into retirement, we find comfort in knowing that our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend is now on a journey into the arms of the cherished ones who preceded her.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Details for Jan's celebration of life will be forthcoming.

The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
