Obituary for Jana Wise
Jana Barrett Wise of Chillicothe was born October 14, 1954, in Strong City, Kansas. She passed away on July 10, 2018, at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, lllinois.
She grew up on a dairy farm at Cottonwood Falls, Kansas, and attended Emporia State
University.
In the spring of 1982 she went to work for Sangamon State University in Peoria, Illinois.
She received her bachelor's degree in business management from University of Illinois
Springfield in 1992 and advanced to the position of Director of the UIS Peoria Center.
She retired in 2012.
Jana married Harold Wise on August 31, 1985. Together they were avid scuba divers.
They were members of the Peoria County underwater rescue dive team. They enjoyed
taking dive groups on trips to Salt Cay, Bonaire, Curacao, Cozumel, Cayman Islands and
Tortuga.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Beverly Slabaugh, and her father, Glendon
Barrett.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Curtis, his wife Sarah, and
grandchildren, Ale, JJ and Maria of Omaha, NE; her mother, Eula Barrett of Cottonwood
Falls, KS; sister Glenda Priest and husband Eric of Emporia, KS; brother Jim Barrett and
wife Melinda of Cottonwood Falls, KS; 8 nieces and nephews and 15 great-nieces and
nephews.
Memorials may be made to Chase County Senior Center or The A.R.K. Animal Shelter.
A memorial service will be held in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas at a later date.
