Obituary for James Smith
James F. Smith, 90, of Pekin passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011 at Pekin Hospital. He was born April 10, 1921 to Harold and Mary Pittman Smith in Eau Galle, WI. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ruth Gardner Smith; four children, James (Aprile) Smith, Scott (Elaine) Smith, Jill (Patrick) Bingham, Rachel (Michael) Schenck and ten grandchildren. Five siblings also survive, Lucy Geiger, Isabel (Ralph) Engeldinger, Daniel (Kathleen) Smith, Mary Ann (Dale) Jensen and Alan (Carol) Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings, Lydia Riddle, Bernard Smith, Robert Smith and Paul Smith. Mr. Smith graduated from Elmwood Wisconsin High School, and Gale Institute of Telecommunications. He served in the Army Corp during WWII, and retired from Chicago & Northwestern Railroad after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where a Memorial Mass will be held Thursday December 15, 2011 at 10 a.m. Msgr. Tim Nolan will officiate. Cremation has been accorded and burial will follow the services at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. The family requests no flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. Jude’s.
