Obituary for James H. Smith Sr.
James H. Smith Sr., 78, of Washburn passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 at his residence.
He was born December 28, 1941 in Chillicothe to Marvin and Irene Baker Smith.
He married Jackie Corey and she preceded him in death in 2017. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Smith in 2003; his parents and brother, Ron Smith.
He is survived by his children, Lisa M. (Marvin) Potter, Jim (Gabe) Smith; grandchildren, Justin (Kathyrn) Potter, Tony (fiancée, Elissa) Potter, Ian Potter; great-grandson, Charles Potter and sisters, Susie Kenyon, and Brenda Moss.
James worked for Wiegand & Storrel Inc. and was a 50-year member of Laborers Local #231. He was a past member of Lacon/Sparland Fire Department and was a Lacon City Alderman. He was co-manager of Lockport Duck Club for over 40 years and a Lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited.
He was an avid outdoorsman and he loved hunting, fishing, and boating on the lake. He also loved to cook fish and tell stories; some might have even been true. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends around the campfire. James was always ready for Happy Hour.
Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Memorials may be made to Ducks Unlimited in his name.
