Obituary for Jacqueline Righter
Jacqueline L. (Amsler) Righter, 83, of Peoria Heights passed away at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria on Monday August 20, 2012 due to heart complications. Jackie was born November 20, 1928 to Russel and Ollie M. (Bragg) Amsler. Jackie is survived by Marianne and Marty Stipe, Salem, Oregon, Gretchen Taylor, Chillicothe,  grandchildren Eric and Anna Stipe; sisters Donna Schifeling (George), Harriett Nora (Jim), and nieces and nephews and their families.  She was preceded in death by her father, mother, and son-in-law, Pete Taylor. Jackie attended East Peoria Elementary and High Schools.  She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Valparaiso University. Jackie married John Righter in 1953. She began her career as a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Gardener Grade School. She began working for the State of Illinois in the mid-60’s.  After twenty six years of service, Jackie made the decision to retire from her position of Regional Manager of Illinois Department of Employment Security which was precipitated by the birth of her first grandchild. Above and beyond everything, Jackie’s love of her family, including her dogs enriched her life. Being an avid Cub fan, she was used to disappointment; but that would change the instant she heard the voice of one of her grandchildren and the wagging of her dog Lulu’s tail.  Jackie volunteered at the Peoria Animal Shelter, Methodist Hospital, the Lutheran Home, as well as serving on the church council and singing in the choir at St Paul’s Lutheran church where she was a member. She kept active and enjoyed spending time with her sisters, children, grandchildren, her church family and the chosen family which lovingly surrounded her, “Gramma Jackie” filled the world with joy, smiles, and love. Cremation rites accorded by the Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria. Services will be held Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1427 W. Lake Avenue, Peoria, IL.  Visitation will be from 1pm to 3pm with services beginning at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Peoria Humane Society and Pete Taylor Trombone Scholarship, EIU Foundation, Charleston, IL.
