Obituary for Hugh Newell McWhirter
Hugh Newell McWhirter, 74, passed away on Friday July 24, 2009 at his home in Peoria. Born in Peoria on October 4, 1934 to Otto and Vona Pasco McWhirter. He married Sue Ann Mueller in Pekin on October 8, 1982, she survives along with his children; Bruce (Missy) McWhirter of East Peoria, Hugh Brian (Cathi Jo) McWhirter of North Ft. Myers, FL, Laura Alice Stephens of West Terre Haute, IN, Amy (Dirk) Zimmerman of Morton, step-children; Todd (Joann) Davis of Delavan, Troy Davis, Gregory Davis and Gary (Fiancée Kathleen Cadwell) Davis all of Peoria Heights, sister Grace (Robert) Marquardt of Peoria and his 22 grand and 2 great grandchildren. His parents and brother preceded him in death. He served in the Air Force and was a retired Electrician out of Local 34 IBEW. Hugh became a Mason in 1957 and was a member of Verlin M. Showaler Lodge #1172, Pekin Chapter #25, Peoria Council #11 of Crypitc Masons, Peoria Commandery #3, Knights Templar and Knights of the York Cross of Honor. He was also a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights where a memorial mass will be held for him on August 17, at 11 a.m. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Memorials may be made in his name to St. Thomas Catholic Church building fund or the Alzheimer’s Association. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
