Obituary for Hugh McQuarrie
Hugh Raymond (Mac) McQuarrie, age 84, passed away peacefully at his home in Hanna City, Illinois on Tuesday, June 12, 2018.
Mac was born in Saginaw, Michigan, to Harold and Judith (Townes) McQuarrie. He moved to Peoria, Illinois in the early 1950s and served in the US Army Reserve while attending Bradley University. He graduated from Eureka College in 1957 with a BS in Accounting, minoring in Psychology.
Mac married Carol (Mace) in 1957, and together they raised five children. Although the marriage ended in divorce in 1974, the two remained wonderful friends.
Mac retired from Keystone Steel & Wire Company in 1976, and from Caterpillar in 1982. He met his guardian angel, Alberta (Abbie) (nee Virden) in 1988, and they married in 2009.
He was an avid fisherman and a stranger to no one. A loving and humorous father and husband, he always had a smile and a joke to share. He brought joy to so many, and will be dearly missed.
Mac is survived by his wife, Abbie, daughter Merrell, of Hudson, FL; son Doug, of St. Charles, MO; daughter Nancy (Anderson) of Wentzville, MO; brother Neil, of Ann Arbor, MI; brother Keith, of Carbondale, IL, twelve grandchildren, and sixteen greatgrandchildren. He is predeceased by his mother and father, stepmother Betty (Hoffman) McQuarrie, son Howie, son, John, granddaughter Nicole, and grandson Vincent.
