Obituary for Helen Gardner
Helen R. Gardner, 92, of Peoria, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, at Heartland Manor of Peoria, surrounded by her family.
Helen was born on November 2, 1925, in Springfield, Illinois, the daughter of Ralph V. and Edna Faye (Murray) Smith.
Helen is survived by her three daughters, Patricia (Stephen) Morton of St Augustine, Florida; Janet (Michael) Stuart of Bartonville; Ellen (Paul) Whittington of East Peoria; twelve grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren; two brothers, Paul (Janie) Smith of Bartonville; William (Pat) Smith of Peoria and brother in law, Duane Batterton of Stanford.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Cathy J. Mitchell and son in law, Harold Mitchell; one brother and three sisters.
Helen worked for A&P Groceries, Key Industries and owned her own cleaning business.
She loved visiting with her family, crocheting and working jigsaw puzzles. A loyal Chicago Cubs fan she was thrilled when they won the World Series on her 91st birthday.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff of Heartland Manor of Peoria for the excellent care and loving compassion they gave to our mom.
Per Helen’s request cremation rites have been accorded. No services with a private burial of ashes at a later date.
