Obituary for Harold Larry Gilmore
Harold L. “Larry” Gilmore, 80, died June, 16, 2011, at his home in Gruetli-Laager, Tenn., with family by his side. He had been ill for six months. Born October 4, 1930, he was a son of Harold C. and Letha V. and grew up in Manito, IL. On November 24, 1950, he married Dolores J. Strope in Pekin, Illinois. She survives. Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jim of Gruetli-Laager, TN and Pat (Patricia) of Palmdale, CA; one daughter, Laura Gilmore of San Francisco, CA; two grandchildren, Ryan and Katie; two brothers, James Gilmore of Pekin, John Gilmore of Manito and one sister, Jane Guengerich of Manito. He was preceded in death by two sons, Tom and Mike and a sister, Madelyn Meyer of Manito. Well known around Central, Illinois, Harold worked for Keystone for several years before starting his own business, Town and Country Roofers and H.L. Gilmore & Sons Construction. He and his wife later owned and operated Chief's Hat Shop in East Peoria. After moving to Tennessee, he worked as a carpenter in the Gruetli-Laager area with his son, Jim until retirement. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin for many years, the Knights of Columbus and Toastmasters. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial mass will be held on Saturday June 16, 2012 at 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Pekin. Fr. James Pankiewicz will officiate. His cremains were laid to rest in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
