Obituary for Gloria Stoda
Gloria L. Stoda, 81, passed away on Friday, July 5, 2013, at Independence Village, where she resided a short time. Gloria is lovingly remembered by daughters, Trudy K. Corbett, San Clemente, CA, Toni M (Douglas) Lais, Peoria, and Tammy S. (Brant) Ladick, Bloomington IL, step-daughter Deborah (Fred) Schulz-Peters, Dallas TX, and granddaughters, Alexa L and Somer E Corbett, both of San Clemente CA and “sister” Margaret Pacyna, Peoria. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, William (Bill) F. Stoda and grandson Andrew C. Corbett. Gloria was born on July 16, 1931 in Chicago, IL to Emery A and Juanita M (Nichols) Rowland. She graduated from Peoria High School in 1949 in the top 10% of her class. She worked at Block and Kuhl in central distribution, warehouse division where she met her future husband, Bill, of 57 years. She graduated from Patricia Vance modeling school, and for the next three years, earned extra income with luncheon shows and photo shoots. She was an office manager and executive secretary for over 20 years at Oneida Loans, Mid City Construction and Geeraerts Realty. Here she obtained her real estate license and developed a lifelong interest in home construction, real estate sales and property management. She then worked for Dr. Best at Internal Medicine Group, Dr. Hoerr DC, and Proctor Hospital from November 1990, until her retirement in December 1998 as a file clerk in the radiology department. Gloria was a registered league bowler for over 50 years, and traveled with her teammates to many out-of-town bowling tournaments. She was a long term member of Delta Beta Phi Sorority, joining in the 1970s, and held various officer positions as President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer and most recently as newsletter editor in 2010. In the past, she held officer positions of secretary and treasurer at Peoria Skeet and Trap Gun Club. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She had many friends, and stayed in touch often with hosting dinner parties, bridge games, and vacationing to visit loved ones. She was a caring friend and companion, a good cook, loving mother, and family organizer. She always enjoyed a good joke, challenging crossword puzzles, and board games. A memorial service will be at 11 AM Saturday, July 13, 2013 at Glen Oak Christian Church, 1115 East Republic Street, Peoria, IL with Pastor Dwight Winnett officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her name to Esther House, Peoria Rescue Ministries, 6847 N. Allen Road, Peoria, IL 61614. Cremation rites have been accorded.
