Obituary for G. David Jr. Oertley
G. David (Dave) Oertley, Jr. passed away December 20, 2013 at his home in Peoria, IL, after a brief courageous fight against pancreatic cancer. He was born February 8, 1949 in Peoria, Illinois to Glenn D. and Ethel (Cheesman) Oertley. Dave first married Jane and has a daughter Ann (Johnny) Kantz. He later married Elaine. All three survive in Peoria, as does his father, sister Nancy (Harvey) Varness of Chillicothe, IL; and, brother Charles (Karen) Oertley of Nashville, TN. He has two grandsons, Bobby and Charlie, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his mother and nephew, Todd Varness. He attended Dunlap schools, Knox College and Bradley University. Dave taught at Whittier Grade School in Peoria, passed the exam to become a Certified Public Accountant, and then worked for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co. in Peoria. Later he practiced privately as a CPA and taught at Illinois Central College. He retired as a professor in May 2012. A Celebration of Dave’s Life will be held at Knights of Columbus Hall on Radnor Road, Peoria, IL at a date to be determined. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oertley Family Scholarship through the Illinois Central College Educational Foundation, 1 College Drive, East Peoria, IL 61635.
