Freda Evelyn (Riley) Greer, 91, of Mackinaw Illinois, peacefully passed into the arms of Jesus, on Saturday June 3, 2023, at Timber Creek Nursing Home in Pekin IL.
Freda was born in New Castle, Indiana on May 27, 1932, to the late Harold and Goldie (Hull) Riley.
She was a 1950 graduate of Deer Creek - Mackinaw High School where she was a cheerleader. After High School she married her husband of over 52 years, Theodore "Ted" Greer Jr. They had three children. Freda was a wonderful supportive mother, who loved her children and was very proud of all their accomplishments.
Freda loved animals and was the first dog catcher of Tazewell County. She was a talented seamstress and made several costumes for her daughters Linda’s dance recitals. She was also a talented cake decorator and baked several wedding cakes for family and friends. She was a Cub Scout den mother. She enjoyed working in her yard & garden and was the president of the Mackinaw Garden club. She was a member of the Mackinaw Christian Church, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, and played the French horn in the church band. She was also a member of the Christian Women's Fellowship, Red Hat Society, and the Mackinaw Historical Society. Freda was an outstanding mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda DeRubeis of Bloomington, IL; son, Jim (Beth) Greer of Newburgh, Indiana, and son, Roger (Roxie) Greer of Pekin, IL. Grandchildren, Aaron (Jennifer) DeRubeis, Chris DeRubeis, Ryan Greer, Rachel Greer; step-grandchildren Dorian "Michael" (ReAnna) Moore & Tami (Mike) Heuring and 6 great-grandchildren; Deonne Greer, Weston Greer, Sidney & Savanna Schlosser, Declan & Liam DeRubeis.
Freda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; brother, Lester Riley, and sisters, June Barrick and Alma Barrick Wilson and her granddaughter, Jessalyn Conn and great grandson, Elijah DeRubeis.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life service will be held at the Mackinaw Christian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2023.
The family would like to thank the staff of Timber Creek Rehab of Pekin IL, and Compassus Hospice of Peoria IL for the care of Freda. They would also like to thank Cole Bernhardt and Doug Anderson of Pekin First Church of God for providing weekly worship services for Freda to attend at Timber Creek.
