Obituary for Fred Moore Jr.
Fred L. Moore Jr., 87, of Peoria, Ill., passed away on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at Lutheran Hillside Village. He was born on June 27, 1923, in Aurora, Ill., to Fred and Anna Moore who preceded him as well as his two brothers Frank and Howard. He married Ethel Mae Gamage on June 21, 1944 who survives him. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign. Also surviving are five children, Jack (Kathleen) Moore of Boston, Jennifer (Michael) Purcell of Columbus, OH, Wendy (James) Gurnsey of Oregon, David (Julie) Moore of San Francisco, and Daniel (Cynthia) Moore of Peoria Heights and eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He was with Arthur Andersen & Co. from 1947 to 1978 working in Chicago, Minneapolis and San Francisco. As a partner from 1957 to 1978 he had been managing partner of the Minneapolis and San Francisco offices. He was a member of the American Institutes of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the Illinois, Minnesota, and California state societies of CPA’s, and an honorary member and past president of the Minnesota CPA Society. Rainbow Division and discharged as a Captain. His decorations were Combat Infantry Badge, Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, European Theater with two battle stars and Occupation Germany. He was active in United Way in Minneapolis and San Francisco serving as President of United Way of the Bay Area in 1974/1975. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and had been a member of Minneapolis Club, Bankers Club, World Trade Club (San Francisco), and Mid America Club (Chicago). Cremation will be accorded and internment of ashes will be at the Memorial Garden of United Presbyterian Church. A memorial service will be held at the Waters of Life Chapel at Lutheran Hillside Village on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to United Presbyterian Church Foundation, Heart of Illinois United Way or Lutheran Hillside Village Foundation.
