Obituary for Forrest "Dick" Land
Forrest R. ”Dick” Land of East Peoria died February 6, 2012 at the Fondulac Rehabilitation Center in East Peoria at the age of 90 , surrounded by his family. Dick was born December 31, 1921 in Nokomis, Illinois to Grover and Zora (Alphine) Land where he grew up and farmed with his family. He married Helen Snow on December 26, 1941 and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage. In January 1943, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving through the duration of World War II. Following the war, he worked as a regional truck driver in the Peoria area. In retirement he was known as the neighborhood fix-it man. As a volunteer, he helped build Fondulac United Church of Christ in East Peoria, where he was a long-time member. His wife Helen, and their children, daughter Marilyn (Merrill) Johnson, sons Dennis (Aleta) Land and Brian (Becky) Land; his eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren will miss him terribly and always remember him with love. Cremation rites have been accorded with private services at a later date.
