Obituary for Eugene Ely
Eugene F. Ely 87, of Peoria Heights passed away on Saturday March 26, 2011 from complications from Colon Cancer. Born in Metamora to Francis and Elsie Baggs Ely on June 19, 1923. He married Violet Uphoff in Peoria on October 1, 1949, she survives. Also surviving are his daughter Susan Ely and grandson Benjamin Ely both of Peoria Heights, brothers Francis Ely of Eureka, Maurice (Doris) Ely of Waupun, WI, Lowell (Delores) Ely of Pekin and his many nieces and nephews. Eugene served in the Navy during WWII and was a Carpenter through Local 183, retiring in 1978 and was member of the Foresters. He loved building quality projects and working with wood. He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved gardening and shared many of his vegetables with his friends and family. He enjoyed doing outside yard work and playing tractors with his only grandson “Ben Boy”, he will be dearly missed and always remembered in our hearts. Cremation has been accorded and a memorial mass will be held on Wednesday April 6

at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. Burial of his cremains will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Peoria Heights Ambulance Fund.
