Obituary for Elizabeth Brandon
Elizabeth Reeve Brandon, 94, of Peoria passed away Thursday March 8, 2012 at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria. She was born August 6, 1917 in Washington, D.C. to Charles S. and Elizabeth G. Reeve. She married John McGilroy Brandon on October 27, 1945 in Leonia, NJ. She is survived by her husband of 67 years; sons, Peter R. (Helen) Brandon, William J. (Joan) Brandon, John M. (Laurie) Brandon; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Betty grew up in the New Jersey and New York area and graduated from Wells College in New York. She was active in the Arts and Theater including: Children’s Community Theater, Peoria Players, National Society of Arts and Letters, Broadway Theater League, Corn Stock Theater, Speakers Bureau for Lakeview Center, Methodist Hospital Service League, Illinois Theater Board and Junior League of Peoria. She wrote plays, skits, poetry, was accomplished as a watercolor artist, played the Piano by ear, and was often recognized for her decorating skills. She was a woman of many talents. In her own words, “I grew up in little theater, starting with backyard productions when in the 6th grade. My father, brother and I were active in an amateur group in New Jersey and I have always been associated with theater groups since then; so that it has become just a way of life.” She was a member of the First Federated Church of Peoria where a private service will be held. Cremation has been accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or First Federated Church.
