Obituary for Elbert Gentry Jr.
Elbert H. Gentry Jr. 80, of Pekin passed away at his home, peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Monday November 21, 2011. He was born November 10, 1931 in Shirley, AR to Elbert H. and Laura Clark Gentry Sr. He married Beverly Ann Calvetti March 23, 1958 in Peoria. She preceded him in death December 29, 2005. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Susie Mae Klien. He is survived by his son, Bret (Lisa) Gentry of Pekin; daughter, Denise (Greg) Peters of Pekin; granddaughters, Ashley Madden of Pekin, Caitlin Peters of Pekin; brother, Delbert Gentry of Converse, IN; sisters, Bonita Skinner of Sims, IN and Juanita Thompson of Swayzee, IN. Elbert served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Caterpillar for 32 years retiring in 1982. He was an avid Cardinals fan, gardener and loved working in the yard. He got great joy in helping other people. He was never happier than when he was with his granddaughters. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Pekin where a funeral service will be held Saturday November 26, 2011 at 10 a.m. Pastor Kristie Peterson will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. A visitation will be held Friday November 25, 2011 at Abts Mortuary in Pekin from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be made to TAPS or First United Presbyterian Church in his name.
